    Description

J.B Owens founded his company in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1891. Though much of his energies was devoted to tile production, art pottery was created at the factory. The factory burned in 1928 and the company closed thereafter. This vase is the "Utopian" line, which is a standard brown ware with underglaze slip decoration introduced around 1900. The front of this vase is decorated with a branch of colorful fall leaves in brown, rust, gold and green. It stands about 5" in height. There are no cracks but overall crazing with a glaze flake off at the top rim (pictured). I couldn't avoid the reflections. The base is stamped "J.B. Owens Utopian 832". A rather hard-to-find pottery.
